Irvine, CA – August 11, 2023- The National Bicycle Dealers Association’s P2 Group Canada is excited to announce its upcoming meeting in September, to be held in the scenic town of Cranbrook, British Columbia. This gathering promises to be a pivotal event for bicycle retailers across Canada, as the association extends a warm invitation to other Canadian retailers to apply to be part of the P2 group and join at the in-person experience.

The P2 initiative, launched by NBDA in 2006, has been a driving force behind the success of specialty bicycle retailers. Its collaborative approach empowers retailers to enhance their sales strategies, boost profitability, and elevate the overall customer experience. Over the years, more than 100 retailers have participated in this program, reaping the benefits of shared insights and best practices. The retailers within the program engage in virtual monthly meetings and biannual in-person gatherings. During these sessions, participants can exchange, compare, and analyze specific business data, enabling them to collaborate on operational improvements and strategic planning.

“The Canadian group has a dynamic way of supporting one another – those looking to prepare best for 2024 should take advantage of joining the program now,” stated Chad Pickard, Co-Moderator of NBDA P2 Group Canada.

Current P2 Canadian Group Member, Greg McDonald, GM of Ridley’s Cycle commented, “The P2 groups I’m participating in have been incredibly helpful. It’s helped us save almost $85,000 in net profit by analyzing operating expenses, increased our service sales by collaborating and learning from another dealer by staffing to meet historical demand in the moment, and provided comparative metrics to see where we’re winning or losing. It’s been providing tons of benefits and I’ve grown close to the folks in our group, and it feels like there’s more people ‘in your corner’.”

Key highlights of the upcoming September meeting include:

  • Networking and Knowledge Sharing: Retailers from across Canada will have the chance to connect, exchange ideas, and learn from one another’s experiences in the cycling market.
  • Interactive Retail Store Visit: Attendees will participate in a tour of a group members retail store and follow up with discussions focused on sales strategies, operational efficiencies, and customer engagement.
  • Scenic Cycling Opportunities: Cranbrook’s stunning landscapes and cycling trails offer participants the chance to experience firsthand the beauty and potential of the cycling industry in the region.

Interested retailers, both established and newcomers, are encouraged to seize this unique opportunity to join the NBDA P2 Group Canada and be a part of the Canadian-specific P2 Profitability Project group. This collaborative effort promises to empower businesses, stimulate growth, and contribute to the advancement of the Canadian cycling retail sector.

NBDA President Heather Mason added, “The expansion of our P2 program into Canada last year showcases our commitment to fostering growth, innovation, and collaboration within the Canadian bicycle retail industry.”

For more information and to sign up for the P2 Program, please visit the NBDA P2 Webpage.

Discover the difference 529 Garage makes for your customers!

Easily register bikes with 529 Garage at checkout

While you may capture a bike’s serial number in your sales system, that information is only available to the store. If a bike is stolen, the community can’t use it to assist in a recovery. With the 529 Garage, users can manage their registration and have all the information to start an alert if it’s ever needed, regardless of the time of the day. 529 Garage integrates with Lightspeed, Vend and Ascend POS to make registering a bike as easy as just a couple of clicks. Use a different POS system? Let us know and we’ll do our best to come up with a solution for you.

Shield your customer’s bikes against theft

529 Garage Shield kits are a great add-on item for all bike sales. The 529 Shield not only makes it easier to look up a bike to locate its owner, but also acts as a deterrent to thieves like a security system sticker in a home window. As a Project 529 Registration Station, you’ll appear on our website locator map to help point local cyclists to your store.

Register your fleet

Does your shop rent bikes? Protect your rental fleet by registering the bikes with us! Registering with the 529 Garage is a proactive step that takes less than 5 minutes, and in the event a bike goes missing, you’ll be able to quickly engage the 529 Garage community in recovering the bike.

Register your inventory

Grab all the details about the bikes in your inventory easily with our app, and transfer the registration to the new owner with just their email address on purchase. Having your inventory registered not only helps safeguard your shop’s bikes, but may help you get a discount on your insurance.

Verify used bike purchases

Does your shop buy used bikes? Check the bike on 529 Garage to avoid buying stolen property.
