Today’s Flex is about the NBDA P2 profitability program and why it should be important to you, the bicycle retail owner or general manager. I’m coming to you just back from two weeks on the road in both Naples Florida and Roanoke, Virginia, where we were hosting groups of our P2 profitability project retailers. 30 retailers from North America join us over the past few weeks. We filled the mornings with yoga guest speakers focus meetings peer to peer learning, afternoon daily rise and critical thinking sessions. Retailers uniting to help each other through pain points, share best practices and talk through timely topics such as E bikes, customer engagement and using data. The value of this experience cannot be stressed enough. Take a look at our NBDA Facebook page and Instagram feeds for some images captured over the past two weeks. Then go to nba.com and give your deposit to start the program in December this year. If you are ready to invest in your personal development as a bicycle retailer, join a pizza group. For a small investment your P2 membership dues will see your return at least two times over. It’s not an exact science but investing in yourself and furthering your education can only add to your success. I don’t want this to sound like an advertisement. But after spending these past two weeks with retailers, I saw firsthand the value, the pages and pages and pages of notes that these retailers are taking back to their stores that they can implement today. But don’t take it from me. I was recently emailing with Jeff Seltzer, General Manager of Palo Alto bicycles, who wrote me that he was involved with the P2 program from its inception. He wrote that meeting like minded retailers who were interested in proving their businesses as well as the industry had been one of the highlights of his tenure in the industry. He shared his top takeaways such as the P2 group acting as a board of directors, how often as a shop owner or general manager, the buck stops with you. There is no one to discuss the problems you’re having with staffing or business practices or other issues. But having a P2 group gives you essentially a board of directors who are there to help you succeed at any time. He went on about the numbers, taking those numbers of gross sales, payroll route labor, and comparing them to other shops to see how you’re doing gives you firsthand critical information that is super valuable at the end of the day. He then went on about the shop visits, part of the PTA program involves having other retailers in your group, come visit your store and give you firsthand information, cold, hard truth, non threatening about how you can improve. He said it was like standing in front of a crowd in your underwear. It’s terrifying and vulnerable. But it’s feedback that is able to be implemented and makes your business more profitable in the long run. He finalize the email saying that with anything in life, you get out what you put into it. It’s not a magic pill, you have to be willing to roll up your sleeves dive in and implement what your PTO group gives you. So who should join P2, P2 is perfect for independent bicycle retailers who are unsatisfied with your current profits, and you’re ready to take your bicycle retail profitability to the next level. News launched yesterday from people for bikes on the partnership with call to recycle the nation’s largest most reliable battery recycling program experts to launch the first industry wide e bike battery recycling program in the United States. Great job people for bikes. The goal of this initiative is to provide a safe and reliable way to keep electric bicycle batteries a valuable resource out of landfills, bicycle retailers can enroll as collection sites and begin accepting batteries from riders starting February 2022. Focusing on this for today’s flex was a no brainer. As the importance of battery recycling is top of mind. 130 million electric bicycles are expected to be sold globally between 2020 and 2023. That’s a lot of batteries and those batteries powering those bikes will need to be safely and responsibly collected and managed at their end of life. With no current established way to get those batteries to recycler. This program was developed to keep batteries out of landfills, and works to ensure that batteries are safely handled and return to the recycling stream. Pretty cool. retailers who register as a collection site will get their location added to the map of a bit available collection points, stickers and hang tags to provide battery recycling information to your customers in store safety Materials Safety training, and us do T compliant recycling kits all with prepaid shipping. They have over 25 years of experience collecting and recycling more than 140 million pounds of batteries in the US there are leading not for profit battery logistics and recycling program and they successfully launched a similar program recently in Canada. Today’s message is centered around a quote and sentence we recently wrote about and an email to NBDA members. The quote bicycle retail will never be the same. It struck us are we changed? Will bicycle retail never be what it was. We had an overwhelming response to this email with retailers sharing their feedback and thoughts. One letter stood out to us as something we wanted to share. With permission from the retailer who wrote this email to us. We want to share their response and what they’re doing and their bicycle retail store to navigate the changing retail times. The letter went like this. The uncertainty has forced us to be flexible, creative, and we agree that it’s permanently changed the way we are doing business. We are rethinking everything. And we mean everything. We just ordered new hardware for our point of sale system to upgrade storage. We are finally partnering with smart detailing to get our inventory live on the website and have the option for a shopping cart program. We are integrating our current site into their platform so we can keep the look and feel of ours. With our inventory feed. We have reconfigured and re merchandise the whole store and have plans for a bigger Reno over the winter. That involves a bit more construction than we can manage. Well, it’s still so busy. We are reorganizing and cleaning all of our storage areas and clearing out old stuff that we no longer need. We have taken a hard look at our retail partners. We are thinning the herd and sticking with the companies that are profitable and reliable and have been serious about protecting IVDs we are no longer just going to carry products because they are available. We are willing to wait to sell the stuff we really love. Most importantly, we are focusing on finances to be sure we can afford bikes as they allocate in from our vendors. Instead of treating them all separately. We are looking at them as a whole and adjusting the backwaters to make sure we will have as diverse a mix of product as we can, but still make sure we are able to afford the bikes. Many companies have given up on a traditional spring dating model and are doing 30 or 60 Day dating. That doesn’t work for us in the Northeast so well. So we have to forecast that as best as possible to manage the cash flow. It all feels like a giant game of Guess what’s going to happen next. And there is no playbook from past experience for this new retail world we are entering. It is terrifying, but it’s also challenging and very exciting for us. If we can navigate this successfully, I think we will all be much more successful and strong. On the other end. A special note of things to this retailer for allowing us to share their thoughts and what they are doing in their store. Thank you for sending the email to us. We always appreciate the emails we get back. We know it’s different. It’s scary, it’s new. We want to propose to hold on to the best of bicycle retail and what it means to you in your community. Bicycle retailers have a place a strong place in the heart of a community. Bicycle retail might never be the same but bicycle retailers are still the strong passionate enthusiast adding to the journey of every current and future cyclists, helping with the changing climate bettering local trails, adding bike lanes, finding a profit and making their life’s work in the industry. And great news. While new and tough to navigate there is still success to be found great success in the bicycle industry. It might just look a little different. Welcome to the Friday retailer flex so weekly pointed, digestive, inspirational and actionable insights you can implement today to take your business to the next level. This is NBDA President Heather Mason. If you’re a first time listener, be sure to check out the previous episodes and do us a huge favor leave a review. It helps members of our industry find our podcast. Today’s flex is centered around pushing that reset button and some personal tips of mine that I want to share with you for retail success. For the past few days during my morning run, thoughts of the new consumer and the aftershock of the global pandemic has left my mind swirling. Every day I have a unique opportunity to speak email or text with multiple shops, conversations that leave my mind spinning the pieces in place. I know it’s not enough for me to communicate to you the information you need such as bike availability. But more I also want to be able to provide you with feedback that I’m hearing from other retailers and compiling to offer tips, insight and suggestions based on these conversations. So this morning, I woke up and after getting the kids to school, it all clicked what today’s flex needed to be about. In our Monday mingle, I see tension in retailers faces. The conversations with community members and shop owners have a certain feel of vulnerability. And it seems that we’re all seeking a desire for safety, protection and seriously low stress situations. Feedback shows that the retail environment is feeling the subtle effects of this as well. As humans, we typically step away from tension. But I wonder if it would help us as retailers to walk towards it, embrace it and offer solutions. We have noticed that buying trends are scattered as consumers are taking control of obtaining their wants and needs and searching for anything that makes them feel good, healthy and safe. We want to get back to the norm. We want to spend time with our family, we value our time. By some estimates, we have jumped over a growth pattern of 10 years and as little as 18 months as ecommerce sales have vaulted. What we witnessed as normal shopping will never be the same. We have all changed. loyalty is that all time vulnerability high. People want it they crave it. We want to feel good about relationships and where we spend our money, and where we put our time and energy and it is time to reconnect and reaffirm to your clients, your riders your community that you understand as a retailer what they value in need, and that you are responding with inventory adjustments and additional communication. We need to deepen our connections now more than ever, we need to make sure we are offering a safe environment and an easy experience. We need to thank our customers invite them back again. Remind them how important they are to us. We need to create experiences that we can engage with them on a more personal level. Might it be a group ride, a picnic, or moments like the NBDA Costa Rica trip we just organized memorable moments. Although it is not something on the tip of our tongue like six months ago, it is still important to make sure the state the store is a safe environment. You should still continue to post specific guidelines and deepen your cleaning protocols. Make sure your employees are aware of these guidelines. Additionally, it is more critical than ever to pay attention to keep the store frictionless, uncluttered and not crowded. It should be easy for the writer to come in and find exactly what they need. For you. It’s important to pay attention to spots where dust old parts and papers could pile up. Remember that the consumer sees everything. Stand back. Look at your shop from the entrance to the dumpster inside and out. If you need help consider even hiring a professional cleaning service or commercial property care to help you keep up. Pay attention to the windows parking areas. Finish it off with making sure your staff is either in uniform or that each member looks clean and approachable and their unique style. Every effort pays off and paints an image in the mind of the writer of the value of that you have for your business. And it reflects on the consumers thoughts of how much they trust your product recommendation. They trust your service. They assume If the shop is clean and top notch, then you must be as well. You can use technology to help the shopping convenience, many options exist to offer a frictionless buying experience for your customer. These were things we had talked about months ago and we still do. But many shops have continued forward with this technology, although it’s not required now because we are allowing people in it streamlines services and advances the level of your retail environment. Things like mobile payments in store curbside pickup, digital screen browsing. Some shops are scheduling services pickups using things like hub tiger. Some stores are scheduling a one on one shopping experience to offer personalized bike purchasing with a sales associate. These are unique opportunities to create a customer centric environment. One that is tailored one that is uniquely something that you offer. We have witnessed a surge in digital shopping and you need to embrace this, make sure your website information is clear and distinct. Consumers searching should easily find you online work with outlets such as locally pointee, and other local listings to help with SEO. Having a website that is fast and easy to navigate with clear product descriptions and detailed images is critical. use social media to further enhance your online success. Use your customer data to connect with segment emails and use SMS when appropriate. These are new norms and expectations of our riders and truly create a customer centric experience. If you read my emails, or tune in weekly to our podcasts, I tilt many of my messages towards connecting with the customer, the in store experience and supporting online shopping encounters. At the retail level, these three things are what I would consider the essence of what we offer. Why would a consumer choose you with all the options available. Regardless if I am purchasing something in store, online or over the phone, one thing always happens. It’s human connection. At some point, I am connected to a person an item and experience. And at some time during that connection. I had a moment where I felt like this was it. This person, this website, this phone call convinced me made me comfortable. And I was ready to choose this to add to my life story. I will consider the most amazing part of why you choose to open your store is how you get to play a role in us. You retailer, you are the connection. You get to be that store. That person that brand or website that makes everything click, you get to change someone’s life with a new bike. You and your staff get to be a part of their new bike story, or even play a role in selecting a child’s first bike, your shop, your brand, your IBV that’s huge. So today, reset, reboot cleanup and press on the MBTA is totally on your side. Today’s flex is centered around how to build operational efficiency at your retail bicycle store. In order to grow your business, you may have been told to work on your business and not in your business. While this is true, and something we encourage retailers to do, it’s important to remember that you still need an accurate picture of what’s going on in the store to ensure it’s operating efficiently. The huge boom in our industry may have exposed weaknesses in your retail operations. This can result in several issues, including unhappy customers and employees, loss of profits, unplanned expenses, and poor customer reviews. Luckily, there are some things you can do to build and improve operational efficiency. Today we have three effective strategies, we suggest the bicycle retailers to help you accomplish this goal. First, in order to improve operational efficiency, you need to talk to your employees. As your frontline workers, your employees have a lot of knowledge about what is working and what isn’t working for your business. This includes processes and procedures, infrastructure and customer feedback. When building operational efficiency, we encourage you to speak with your employees and incorporate their opinion. Be sure to look out for common concerns among your employees as these are the issues you should prioritize first. Additionally, we recommend spending some time working in your business to get a sense of how things are running. While you may have started your business from the ground up, you may no longer have an accurate idea of how it’s running if you’ve been focused on growing it. successful companies like Starbucks have their management and business leaders train in the barista role for some time so they understand the product and service they are selling. Keep in mind that although something may sound like a good idea on paper, it may not work as effectively as you think in practice. The second tip to improve operational efficiency, promote cross training and communication. For bicycle retailers with service and sales departments. It’s a good idea to provide your employees with an idea of what each department does, and any specific operational procedures allowing them to be able to help out in times of need. Equally important, we encourage you to have the proper communication channels in place to allow your employees to effectively communicate with you and each other. Everyone should be working towards the same common goals for your business, provide opportunities to engage and share ideas and concerns, which will help streamline processes and workflow. Lastly, we recommend having your processes and procedures written down in a formal document that can be assessed by your employees. By having formal processes and procedures in place. You’ll set a standard for your employees to follow and be accountable for. And the third tip to improve operational efficiency, enhance your resources and infrastructure, even if your processes and procedures are working fine. Using outdated software and hardware can negatively impact your operations. While upgrading these areas of your business can be costly. It’s an investment that’s inevitable and necessary if you want to improve your operational efficiency. Delaying upgrades could end up costing money in the long run. by upgrading your technology you can increase your ability to fulfill and manage sales and service orders while increasing the overall productivity of your employees. Today’s flex is centered around some retail strategies for improving sales. The best retailers know who their target customers are and why those customers are shopping with them. Experienced bicycle retailer or just getting started in our industry. We have seven retail sales tips to grow your business. Number one, attract new customers with great windows and engaging website, a blog and social media. The logical step when you want to go after new customers is to give them a consistently high quality experience, whether they might be engaging with you wherever they are. That means you have killer window displays that tempt desire with one grouping rather than hard selling everything in store. That means paying for a website that mirrors a high quality experience with your hours directions, and what customers will get from coming into your physical store. It means a blog that continues to help your customers to do more with the items you carry. And it means a compelling social media strategy that includes Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and more. The second tip, pay your employees more. There’s a reason many small retail business stays small, they think small and try to limit every cost. When you pay your sales staff more you can expect more. stores that pay higher wages with more full timers have lower turnover and higher profitability. never compromise your store’s ability to create an exceptional experience for your customers. Do the hiring whoever will work for the lowest wages. Pro Tip number three. Train your employees on an ongoing basis. Take nothing for granted when it comes to how your employees answer the phone, greet a customer, sell your merchandise or even take out the trash sales training as a must have in your retail strategy. Tip number four, curate your merchandise skews. More lines, more models more choice is not what customers are looking for. Your customers are coming to you because they’re looking for the best choice. That means you want to be the curator that organizes and presents a collection of products customers can clearly see have advantages over the competitors. Tip number five, engage the customer in the best way. We talk about greeting the customers but retailers who station a greeter at the front of the store to pair everyone Hi, how are you today are not engaging, they’re actually annoying. The best retailers are the ones who hire and train and know the game is to engage the customer in a conversation. That doesn’t mean to Badger them with 100 questions. But encourage your sales associate to find a way to engage the customer in a back and forth dialogue. To be helpful to be handy to be human and to elevate the customer experience. Tip number six. Invite your customers to return often. The last thing people leave your store with is how you sent them out back into their own world. Thank you was fine. But the best bicycle retailers find a way to come around the counter. Think the new rider again. motivate them to ride and invite them to return back to your shop to interact with you in a clinic or group ride. Or perhaps remind them to visit you online. Pro Tip number seven. consider doing a live stream on Facebook or Instagram. It’s important to remember that social media is for more than offering discounts, coupons and product shots. But hosting a live stream allows you the possibility to answer potential customers questions to teach existing customers something new and does it with a way of authentic personality coming across to your customers. It’ll bring them back into your store allows them to feel like they know you on a more personal level. Consider it it’s not that hard once you get into it. Ben Baron holds VP marketing at quivers. The NBDA is thankful for our relationship with quivers and the support to our retailers. Alright, Ben, welcome to bicycle retail radio. Could you tell us a little bit more about yourself and your role at quivers?

Yeah, absolutely. Thanks for having me. appreciate having me on the podcast. So yeah, I’ve been Barry holds the VP of marketing of quivers, and we’re a software company that makes what we call commerce software. For specialty brands and retailers. We say commerce software, because we have a collaborative platform that crosses the spectrum from both the e commerce side as well as the fulfillment side. So we have a number of you know, kind of features and tools that helps brand and retailers with their e commerce operations, right as selling online becomes a bigger and bigger deal. So we can’t really ignore these days. But that’s not the end all be all right? There’s still physical retail and a lot of commerce that takes place after the purchase online. So we have a lot of tools that help with fulfillment of those orders, and that also help physical retailers, you know, run their business as best as possible. They’re on the ground, then I have been talking to so many people about quivers and retailers are like how do I get started? How can I work with whoever’s what’s the process? Yeah, for the retail side, it’s extremely simple. So the way our pricing model works out, you know, with brands, when they sign on, you know, there’s there’s a kind of typical software platform fees for usage and for their team, but our software is is user facing in both directions. So both there’s kind of a user interface for brands and it’s also user interface for retailers. As I said, it’s really about connecting these two groups, so that their online and offline, you know, commerce operations work hand in hand collaboratively and less at odds with one another. So for retailers, the process is actually super simple so they can get in and create a retailer account, it’s you know, we call it a fulfiller account, technically can be a merchant as well, but that’s a whole different discussion. So they can get on they create this account, right? And they can populate it and put their stuff in there. And what that allows them to do is they can search through quivers for brands they may already carry physically in store and see if those brands are already in quivers. So some of the brands they’re selling right now, you know on shelf may actually be using quivers and routing orders to other retailers as well. So those they can you know, there’s a, you know, as simple as hitting a button to ask to connect with those, and we have a customer success team can help facilitate that as well. Right? So it’s not entirely self service. So those retailers can connect with those brands they already know, right? And talk to him and say, Hey, I’m on quivers. Now, when you you know, take orders online on your ecommerce site, we would love to be a fulfiller you could route those orders star physical location, and we can email them last mile or do pick up in store etc. And it’s just as easy as that right and we make money when the retailers make money so we’re not going to charge them anything when they fulfill an order. You know, they take a big cut of that sale right for selling that item, we take a small percentage out of that. So it’s basically free to get started. For the retailers, they can start fulfilling orders, try it out, see if it works for them, you know, really no commitment, no overhead for them. And then for any brands they see on the platform that they’re not connected with that they don’t currently carry in store. They can go through our customer success team to try and get introduction to that brand and see if they can also you know perhaps start a relationship and start fulfilling for orders for those brands as well.

It sounds like a win win. It’s absolutely free for retailers and you set it in a seminar at the show here yesterday. You said let’s be honest you don’t want to hear this. But the customer journey almost always is gonna start with the customer visiting the brand website if we can get those customers back to the retailer. We’re winning right?

Oh yeah, that’s always a that’s a little bit of spoonful of hard truth right? I always like to watch people’s reaction like tell him that. You know, we believe in this. I mean obviously Look, the way you sell software you don’t come up and build software and then like serve stuff reasoned solutions to people and try and sell them, you build software based on the problems that exist. So when I talk about these things, it’s not because it’s self serving that our software solves it’s like, we went out and listen to 1000s of brands and retailers and dug in on what the problems were and looked at the consumer behavior and went, Okay, if we bought software that did these types of things that would really solve those problems. So that’s what what we saw is, is like it or not, right? We’ve defined what we call specialty, right? We take specialty beyond specialty retailer, and we apply that to the brand level in the consumer level, when we look at the consumers and say, these specialty consumers that are buying high end, you know, highly manufacturer sporting equipment or products like bikes or things like that. They have a lot of particular wants and needs and expectations as consumers, but they’re, you know, they’re very different than the generalized consumer. So that’s gonna mean one thing for us, but they’re also starting to behave like every other consumer. So what I mean there specifically is this consumer group that you’re selling to is a specialty brand retailer, they both want to purchase online now. So they really do, right, I mean, yes, they are, they’re not showing up in store first thing, like a lot of times they’re in market for a particular bike, you know, not just any old bike, a novice might go shopping for any bike. You know, especially consumer, they have a high brand affinity and like it or not, chances are they’re ending up on the brand website first, that’s what the data shows, you know, Alexa score is going up, direct traffic to brand sites are going up, we’re seeing this all across the board, right. And of course, if a physical retailer that should make you a little nervous and make you feel left out, because they go and they type in giant calm, that’s one of the first places they go, they’re not going to Walmart, they’re not going to Rei not going to bat country icon, they literally type in giant comet, a giant person, and they go there, and they have an intent to purchase. They’re not there to just read up and read technical specs in the product pages like 10 years ago, and as an information on the website, and then go find a dealer. That’s not what they’re there for anymore. They’re their wallet in hand, they’re ready to purchase. They want to make purchases online, just like all the rest of us, you too. I do. We love the convenience of buying online. But here’s the big caveat. The good news, too, that there’s a second part of that consumer behavior that we’re noticing is, while these specialty consumers want to have that online experience, they understand this isn’t socks and razors, they don’t really necessarily just want to all have it delivered to their home, there is still this vital, vital, vital need that they have to be in store. It’s just that in store, part of it is pushing down the customer journey. So they don’t necessarily need to be in store at the point of purchase. But they’re picking options more and more, we see this going up right where they’re choosing ship to store or pick up in store options. So if they buy it online, they don’t necessarily want that certainly full frame breaks are hard to sell. I mean fulfill direct anyway, so there’s no issues there. But you know, even for a lot of items like skates or other things if you’re if you’re a hockey player, you’re like ice skates, having them sent to the store where you can then get in there’s a lot of customizations and fittings and knowledge and advice right repairs there’s a whole world it’s basically retailers doing exactly what they’ve always done right this is the old school part of it it’s that customer that was a customer of the brand’s website you basically get to steal them off with this order routing and take the fulfillment and fulfill that order in house they’re in the physical location and now they become your customer as well and you get them in there and you get to bake the boots you know you get you build the frame tune them up, you know check their brakes maybe cross amazing cross sell upsell opportunities for all the other stuff that going on and now they’re your consumer for life right? Yes, they started on the brand website but instead of fighting that behavior and having the animosity that started on the website, just let it start there and then take it over from there and make them your local customer have the front of house be about experiences and shows in community and service and repair and cleaning right there’s still a mess it’s not just that there’s a massive need for that if that is just an equal want there’s as much equal one for that in store experience as there is for the online shopping it’s just two steps in the journey yeah get them in the door and then while the hell out of them and keep them as customers for life and this is just free way for retailers to get involved with brands get these orders directed you’re skimming sales off the brand website frankly and the brands don’t mind me saying that you know there’s you might wonder what does this work for the brand but there’s a lot of stress that DTC puts on their own in house fulfillment capabilities and their learning we’ve had plenty of brands and platform who try and go full D to C right where they all these tons of orders start coming in they got these big dollar signs in their eyes these big dreams about selling like crazy high margins and they quickly find out you know that the operations it takes you know whether they’re corporate warehouse or three PL to ship all these ones twosies is really much more difficult they think and they’re centralized warehousing locations. So they’re looking at Amazon and going Oh hey, the way Amazon has these distributed fulfillment centers Why don’t we take our inventory instead of having it all bulked up in one place? Why don’t we we could be like Amazon and buy out some more property and start to put our you know, distribute our inventory out places closest to the consumer. So they’re the brands are starting to think through their distribution practices and then we walk into like, Guys, guys, you know what you’ve invented. Retail network. Why would you build a distributed warehousing system? When you literally have one, you literally have one and you’re already shipping freight out to all these places. Why not work with the retail network, you currently have big box and long tail specialty retailers and just collaborate together and use them as your distributed fulfillment center across the country, you already have product right next to the consumer. And I think, you know, in certain industries, like we were strong and wintersports, and we’ve seen them wake up to that over the last few years, and it’s going gangbusters like the chief Commercial Officer at technica global has this has been his plan and brought us on board in doing it. And he’ll it’ll tell you like, you know, this idea that retailers, you know, are still just a critical part of your go to market, even if you’re not fully wholesaling. Even if you’re selling online. I mean, just this is an absolutely integrated part of the global business plan. And like, it’s just an amazing case study. Like it really, really works.

This week’s flex is about how we can elevate the post bike sale customer experience with your knowledge. Today’s episode comes out you as a united effort of the MBTA and association member, QB P and bike fit. Bike fits mission is to make riding more enjoyable for every cyclist through products instructions and their apps. I enjoy my weekly conversations with thought leaders on the QB team and bike fit brand business manager Damon Wyatt worked with me to deliver the content for today’s episode. We wanted to deliver information that focused on something you can do today that costs you absolutely nothing and will yield positive results. Using your customer database, we think it is important to follow up with your customers calling them at one month, three months, six months, etc. Alright, so here are some of demons specific tips. We’d like you to think about calling every person who purchased the bike in the last year, especially those who may have picked up curbside and did not experience the face to face conversation and sales process as normal. Do your best to uncover elements of experience in which you can improve. Ask them questions about their new bike. Specifically, how do you feel on the bike? Are you using it the way you planned? Is it functioning the way you expected? Are there any problems or issues? Do you feel any discomfort or have any issues with your feet hands but the questions and conversation provide multiple benefits for your business. If it’s discomfort, you provide customer the opportunity to come in for a proper fit, and that creates additional revenue. If the bike is having issues or problems mechanically, you can discuss service options, or book service. You can ascertain opportunities to discuss possible upgrades, or ergonomic changes based on goals and writing expectations. Having these calls helps you develop stronger relationships with your customers to increase trust and loyalty. And if you sell the right or nothing, you don’t schedule any services. At least you’ve shown your interest in elevating their writing experience, which in turn creates referrals and a customer who will continue to access your shop for a product and expertise. I’m loving these simple customer service oriented tips you can start today. When we ask how we can improve, it always allows the opportunity for growth.
